Chapter 1
“I am so sorry…I didn’t mean to…to…”
“To what?!” I burst out in tears, “To defile me? To have me against my will? In spite of how much I pleaded?? What exactly are you sorry for Eben?!”
He stood there, motionless. For a moment I thought I saw a flicker of sadness in his eyes, which quickly disappeared. He turned and grabbed his shirt, put it on and ran out of the house. I was all alone. When I managed to lift myself from the tiled floor of my parents’ sitting room, there was a pool of bright red blood on the floor where I had been sitting. All of a sudden I felt faint, my head felt like it was being spun on a yarn-making spinning wheel, I could feel beads of sweat form across my brow, everything looked blurry. From a distance, as though in a trance I heard a car pull up…that must be my parents I thought…the banging of the car’s door was the last thing I heard.
“Nana Ama…Nana Ama can you hear me? Please Nana come back to us…please” she sobbed silently
As I tried to open my eyes, the light in the room stung badly. “Mama?” I managed to croak out… “Is that you Mama?”.
“Yes my child, it is I…Oh! Nana Ama, thank God you are awake now. Who did this to you my child? Which imbecile hurt you like this?? Is it Eben? I will…I will…” She broke down into uncontrollable tears. I stretched forth my feeble and weak hand to touch hers, “It’s okay Mother…I’m fine now, let’s forget about it” I said weakly.
“No!” she exclaimed, “Your father and I are going to hunt down whoever did this and make sure he gets punished”. “I have no Father!” I let out in a raspy voice, “That man…that man is not my Father, and he never will be”
“But Nana Ama…”
“I said No! Mama, I have no Father and this case is not going to be reported or investigated. Now please leave me, I want to rest” I said.
She looked at me lovingly, “I love you Rose, and I will respect your decision”. After planting a kiss on my forehead she walks out of the ward in which I was the only patient and I was all alone.
Starting to get acquainted with my surroundings, I quickly realize I am in one of the executive suites in the hospital; the maroon colored leather couch in the far corner of the room, high quality duvet on the next bed I assume had been made available for a visitor, the 24inches flat screen T.V. across the room, fully stocked refrigerator at my bedside, an air conditioner, in built toilet and bath, adjustable bed, a massage chair…these are luxurious things that average hospitals do not possess. This must be a high class hospital I thought to myself…which only that man, my supposed Father would be able to pay for, such a show-off.
